Which exam is for you?

IELTS Academic is designed for people who wish to study undergraduate or postgraduate degrees or work in a professional organisation abroad. It is used to assess your ability to understand and apply the English language in an academic or work-related environment.

IELTS General Training

The General Training test is suitable if you are planning to migrate to an English-speaking country to work or attend training programmes or vocational courses. It is used to evaluate your language and life skills in a variety of social and workplace situations.

IELTS ACADEMIC

The Academic test contains 3 reading passages based on academic subjects extracted from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. The Writing section consists of 2 tasks; a description, explanation or summary of data that is displayed in a graph, table, chart or diagram and an academic style essay presenting a viewpoint on a topic supported with details, examples or facts.

IELTS GENERAL TRAINING

The General Training test involves 3 reading texts which focus on everyday topics, typically found in newspapers, advertisements, instruction manuals and books. The writing section contains 2 tasks, a letter responding to a specific situation, e.g. requesting information, and an essay explaining your point of view on a general topic

Unlike other English language exams, you do not pass or fail the IELTS exam, you receive a band score which determines your level.
